Shadowscar GBC Unreleased Prototype
Rough GBC game based on a public domain character! Originally conceived for the Mega Drive, but retooled using GB Studio!
Publication History:
Eras Comics was a short-lived indie publisher founded in late 1989 and eventually collapsed in early 1992. It was started by comics fans rather than anyone from within the industry as a means to create their own path into the comics industry.
They wanted to be an alternative to the big companies at the time while maintaining the raw indie spirit they saw major comics lacking. Eras received loads of cash from investors wanting to get in on what they saw as the beginnings of another comics boom. Unfortunately, this influx of cash became Eras' downfall as the company furiously spent money on marketing, toy development, video games, and multiple animated series before any of their comics went to print. Investors pulled out just as quickly as they could leaving Eras Comics with nothing to pay its artists and writers, and were forced to shut down.
Their lineup of characters included Shadowscar, Batallion, Fleetwood, Strikewar, Junk-Knight, MotoClaw, and team-up comic Death Force. Only one issue of Death Force was close to release.
Over the years a slow trickle of media came out about the characters and proposed ideas. Unfortunately, only Shadowscar remains.
Character Origins:
Shadowscar was once Simon Horn, a renowned pyrotechnician for stage productions and music videos. After a strange video shoot, Horn witnesses a murder and immediately goes to the local police. They testifies at trial and only then discovers that the murder was a mob hit. As Simon and their family are being moved to witness protection a bomb explodes in their car. The FBI is only able to save Simon from the wreckage, though horribly burned beyond recognition. While they were able to save Horn's life and stabilize their vitals, the scar tissue rendered most reconstructive surgery impossible. The FBI ordered doctors to give Horn a new face and, after learning the mob assumed Simon was dead, they left them alone. After leaving the hospital, Horn left the country and assumed the identity Trent Allen.
In their journey, Trent was trained in stealth and guerrilla warfare by a British expat who served in Special Forces. The two traveled across the world before ending up in Japan. During their stay, a yakuza gang killed Trent’s mentor, forcing Trent to utilize their skills to wage war with the yakuza clan responsible. Eventually, Trent fled Japan by joining the crew of a famous illusionist who just finished their Japan tour. While working, Trent befriended the magician who taught them the art of illusion.
After a Midwest tour, Trent parted with the magician and returned to freelance pyrotechnic work, eventually settling down in the city run by the mob who killed their family. Adopting the persona Shadowscar, Trent waged war against the mob and corrupt police responsible. A story arc that made it to draft involved Shadowscar battling LAW (Lethal Authority of Warriors) a militarized gang made of cops and right-wing extremists who occupied the city under the guise of law and order, but were only there to ‘clean up’ the city for a ‘huge guy’ billionaire to buy up properties for cheap and ramp up his human trafficking enterprise.
